off on vacation again
Sorry, haven't given up, still planning to post in '06 so I can gather more cynical barbs in my butt.
I'm gettin' out the platform shoes for ABBA tonight!
Facts, opinions, rumors and innuendoes about the theater scene in Spokane, Washington

Could you at least remove the pix from shows that have closed?
Why would you want me to do that? Space isn't a worry, and my intention is to leave photos, etc., in the archives so that somebody a couple of years from now can see what Production Y or Performer Z looked like.
This blog is so over.
Do you hate ABBA to?
No--Just snarky anon's who always seem to need a hug :)
I'm curious to know what people thought about Mama Mia (Bobo or otherwise). It's not my favorite show in the world but there were a few really nice performances. Lauren Mufson as Donna was a surprisingly strong actress and carried most of the show quite nicely. It was really nice to see the Opera House packed too.
Kasey, welcome back to Spokane. I enjoyed Mamma Mia too, especially in the guise of a pop concert. (My ears were still ringing from that wall of sound.)
That was actually Laurie Wells as Donna; Lauren Mufson is now singing Donna on Broadway, as the vocalist there "had some vocal issues" (code for got fired? I don't know). Wells has been with the show for two years, but in various parts other than Donna, just in the last month or two took over as the mother.
I was surprised at how tame and quiet it was during the setup. Not much plot, took a long time to get going. If I'd been in the mood for silly ... sometime I am, but ... ABBA is really catchy, I'll give 'em that -- something about some of their tunes stick in your head forever.
If you want to go to an ABBA concert, dress up in platform shoes, fine. But don't call it musical theater. How is this much different from a Las Vegas floor show with a bit of narrative thrown in? I loved a couple of moments (the segues into Mamma Mia! the song and into Super Trouper were clever and fun, I thought). But I walked out at intermission. And I've done that maybe five times in 35+ years of playgoing. But I just didn't want to be there.
May I suggest you put that last question in its own thread, and open up a discussion on the entire concept of jukebox musicals? The topic is much bigger than simply ABBA and Mamma Mia.
