The Civic steps in

The Civic's director of development, George Green, reports that Actors Rep season-ticket holders will be given an opportunity to attend shows at the Civic this season.
"All ARt members -- regardless of whether they are Civic members or not -- will have their memberships honored to some degree, probably in the form of play coupons in exchange for their memberships," Green says.
If ARt has more than a thousand subscribers and if the Civic decides to offer, say, four play coupons to each, that's 4,000 seats the Civic is giving away, with no guarantee that those subscribers will renew at the Civic.

  1. Continue the math........ that's 4000 seats times $14.00 each! Thank you, Civic!!!

  2. actually $18 each.
    studio is $14

  3. Actually, $26 (musicals) and $20 (plays) are the full prices for Main Stage shows, as listed on the SCT Website -- $22 and $15 for downstairs in the Studio -- and still less for seniors and students.

  4. the point being... lilacs to Spokane Civic Theatre for helping out! At great expense to themselves!

  5. still - isn't like over $70,000 in tickets. Amazing.
and by the way.... the littl eslam in the paper about them not having to pay actors.... whatever! Civiv employs more people (artists) than both theatres that fell, combined.
When will the Inlander lose it's biased opinion of Civic as not be a professional organization?!

Community actors - yes. Professional ORGANIZATION.

  6. The Civic is absolutely a professional organization. I've worked in and around community theaters in other states, and SCT is exceptionally good. Exceptionally good.
The biggest single line item for professional theaters, however (so Bobo is told), is actor salaries. The point is that payroll is harder to cover when you need, in a given week, to pay 10 salaries instead of five (or whatever the exact numbers are).
The problem, with any organization, may lie in not doing sufficient planning to pay all those salaries (and more).

  7. How the heck is that a great expense to Civic? It is not costing them anything.

  8. When you give away something you could have sold, that costs you.
