Designing women (and men)

Interplayers is advertising on craigslist for designers and received 15 calls in the first two hours, according to board member Jeff Moreland.
If nothing else, this is a positive sign for the theater's future. Maybe now, Moreland says, we can put a stop to the trend of every media story bemoaning the imminent demise of the House the Welches Built.

Spokane's "professional" theatre is asking talented and experienced people to volunteer before being "considered" for paying positions...on Craigslist of ALL places! Why not the Spokesman, or the Inlander?

"You can get your foot in the door of something that is going to be big". Why aren't/haven't they taken advantage of the offers they've been given!?...and "going to be big"?...
When we worked at Interplayers with Bob and Joan Welch it was (for a non-profit) a thriving business. We were paid a living wage. We didn't get rich, but we were able to live, support three children and buy a house. Within 2 years of the Welches' retirement, poor management and budget cuts left us no alternative but to seek greener pastures.

Now a Board Member of Interplayers is quoted, speaking of "The house the Welches built". He draws on the power of their name, yet does not try to uphold the ideals they lived by.

Interplayers needs to REGAIN it's true professional standing. Not by trolling for volunteers, but by hiring professional Technical Staff AND paying them professional wages.
Paying a stipend (especially if only to actors) does NOT a Professional Theatre make!

Maybe the ad should read "Get your foot in the door for something that was big once."

Moreland simply referred to Interplayers; the embellishment about "the house the Welches built" was entirely Bobo's phrasing.

I'm hearing a rumor Interplayers may not be doing next season. I've heard it from 4 very different sources. You know anything about this, Bobo?

I've heard the same rumor and blew it off as gossip, but now I'm starting to worry. What's going on?
