This season’s most frequently performed scripts

The October issue of American Theatre lists the TCG member theaters’ favorite choices for 2009-10.
A Christmas Carol leads the way with 38 productions this season, followed by
The Santaland Diaries, 14
and
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, 7
As for Shakespeare plays, Othello and A Midsummer Night’s Dream have 10 each.

But setting aside Christmas-themed plays and Shakespeare (as they do every year), the top 10 (including ties) are:
boom by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, 9
The Seafarer, Speech & Debate, and Dead Man’s Cell Phone, all with 8
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Around the World in 80 Days, The Glass Menagerie, and Opus (by Michael Hollinger), all with 7
and six plays tied with six productions each:
Our Town, Shipwrecked! An Entertainment, Souvenir, Yankee Tavern, Black Pearl Sings! and Boeing-Boeing

All right, we've got Best Christmas Pageant coming up at the Civic; Othello about four years ago at Interplayers; various Christmas Carols; and Putnam County would have played here in Feb. but for piles of snow.
But unlike as with the 2008-09 list, Spokane-area theater does not match up well with this list: Not many of these shows have been here recently. (Yes, the Patty Duke Glass Menagerie.) (ARt did Souvenir.)
Check out the opening pages of boom: cast of 3 and an aquarium.
